Instagram Weekend

Very lazy Sunday as documented by Instagram photos: pool, brunch at Jones the Grocer, shopping on Orchard and shooting the ball. Loving this new app. Another fun way for me to keep up with friends. Will probably soon go into media overload...then again I have yet to join Twitter.
My user name for Instagram is zorogoeseast. What's yours?

Thank You Boz Around

Many thanks to my favorite travel blog bozaround.com for her write-up of our trip to Laos. Needless to say that I was very excited when Vanessa from bozaround.com contacted me to do her interview. Foremost, I was honored to find out that she knew of and read my blog. It's sometimes feels very lonely to write a blog. Anyway, her blog was one of my daily reads as she traveled the world last year with her children and now I love her travel tips.
Thank You.
PS. Vanessa, sorry no CNY travel tales, instead a couple pictures of the traditional Lion Dance held in our neighborhood.

Art Stage Singapore 2012

The second edition of Art Stage Singapore is on right now til this Sunday at Marina Bay Sands. My advice is definitely go see. Without doubt, my favorite aspect of this fair is getting to know more about the Asian art scene. The fair definitely has a strong Asian focus (there are a couple European galleries represented, but it's definitely a minority) and personally it's a whole roster of new galleries and artists for me to discover. This year one of my personal favorites is a collective of artists from Kuala Lumpur who recreated a studio photo from the 1960s - the attention to detail is unreal. The above painting is an auto-portrait of Thai artist, Navin Rawanchaikul, who created a mural specifically for Art Stage depicting the Who's Who of the Asia Art World. Visitors were definitely getting a kick out of recognizing themselves. I'm off tonight for a second round and will try to remember and learn more artist names, but when it comes to Asian names I'm pretty much hopeless.

Kumquats

Chinese New Year is 3 weeks away and Singapore is definitely prepping for the coming year of the Dragon. At  local nurseries, there are thousands of kumquat trees waiting for homes. The kumquats are traditionally given as gifts because the Chinese word for kumquat is "Gam Gat Sue" which rhymes with gold and luck. The leaves of he kumquat symbolize wealth and the round shape of the fruit is a symbol of unity and perfection. Thus, everyone who eats kumquats will be insured good fortune, prosperity and happiness.  Then maybe I should be eating kumquats instead of photographing them.

My Flying Pigeon

I first came across the Flying Pigeon,  on Jeffrey and Flora's blog http://www.jeffreyandflora.com/2011/05/flying-pigeon.html. Loved the retro look of the Flying Pigeon and loved it even more after reading up on its history. According to the Flying Pigeon website "Only one bicycle has earned the distinction of being the single most popular mechanized vehicle on the planet. That bike is The Flying Pigeon."
then I stumbled across this video and was smitten

www.theflyingpigeon.com

so as of yesterday, I too am the proud owner of my very own Flying Pigeon.
Now all I have to do is find a name, love that Flora calls hers "The Pidge."
Have a lovely weekend. I'll be flying around town this weekend and I desperately need to teach Lil O how to ride his own bike, because that seat of his is definitely hindering my cool retro bike look or then again it could be the pants. Whatever as big Z would say.

Happy New Year

Wishing you all a Happy New Year.
Got back a couple of days ago and slowly getting over jetlag (with a little help of some miracle pills) and getting back to our Singapore routine. Spent a really fun 2 weeks back in Europe with family, friends and lots of snow, so much snow.  Too bad our ski days are already over for this winter season but never mind I'm running over to the pool this afternoon to hone my freestyle stroke with my Zoros.
