Summer Recap, Part III

Last part of our very long summer holidays: Provence

Top 5 things we enjoyed most whilst staying in Provence:

1. Reconnecting with friends and family. Thank you to all those who dropped by and hope you'll come back next summer.

2. Provencal food: tapenade, anchoiade, ratatouille, fresh tasty local produce topped off with our very own olive oil pressed at the Moulin du Calanquet and all masterfully executed by our favorite chef Nouna. Oh and let's not forget the rosé. Our favorite rosés of the summer were: Domaine de Valdition, Mas de la Dame and Château La Jeanette

3. Horse back riding for the kids at Le Poney Club le Rouget which included an epic camping experience.

4. Strolling through our favorite Provencal village: Saint Rémy de Provence and stopping off at our favorite haunts: Glacier Roma, La Maison de La Presse and Petit Duc

5. Tending to Lucky our 3 legged bunny who miraculously survived. Go Nurse Zoé!!!

Many thanks to my favorite travel blog bozaround.com for her write-up of our trip to Laos. Needless to say that I was very excited when Vanessa from bozaround.com contacted me to do her interview. Foremost, I was honored to find out that she knew of and read my blog. It's sometimes feels very lonely to write a blog. Happy Thanksgiving

Definitely wish I were about to sit down for turkey with friends and family, but unfortunately no Thanksgiving dinner again for us this year. Yet, I'm grateful for all of the new adventures we've had in the past year here in Singapore. Miss all of you and can't wait to see you very soon.

Houseguests

We've been lucky, lucky to have so many friends and family come visit us.  All of you bring along with you a little piece of back home and keep us connected  We love having you stay with us.  After 10 months here, my Singapore tours have greatly improved and I've even developed different tours according to your requests. We have the cultural tour, the nature/jungle tour, the sports tour, the kiddie tour and the farniente tour. Come see us and promise we won't complain about going to the zoo for the 21st time. Thanks all for coming and we hope that you will be soon coming our way.

Bonnes Vacances

Afternoon stroll at the Botanical Garden

School year is ending this week and some of our favorite "Singaporeans" are already heading back west for the summer holidays. Over lunch yesterday, with the kids, we were discussing their last week at school and the girls couldn't believe that it was over so soon. Don't they say that time flies when you're having a good time. We have all loved our Singaporean experience so far. Soon it will be our time to go back home for the holidays and I can't wait for the kids to share their Singaporean experiences with friends and family, but most of all we're all happy to go back, for a month, to the place we call home.

P drinking it up at the Screening Room

P is moving back today to our hometown after having lived abroad for the past 5 years.
She was my expat mom expert and gave me lots of good advice before our move to Singapore.
Anyway, even though she's really happy about going home, I thought this recipe could come in handy in the next few days to give her move a little sling.

Singapore Sling Recipe

30ml Gin.

15 ml Cherry Brandy.

120 ml Pineapple Juice.

15 ml Lime Juice.

7.5 ml Cointreau.

7.5 ml Dom Benedictine.

10 ml Grenadine.

a dash of Angostura Bitters (say what?)

Mix all of the above with ice

Garnish with a slice of Pineapple and Cherry

                                                             et voilà....

Ah! la belle Escalade

"Qu'ainsi périssent les ennemis de la République"

that's what we screamed tonight for desert before our chocolate orgy began.

Great friends from Geneva sent us a chocolate "marmite", so that we too could celebrate the Escalade here in Singapore. Breaking the traditional marmite is the Genevan way of celebrating their December, 1602 victory over the Savoyards when they tried to take hold of Geneva. Belief is that the Mère Royaume threw her cauldron of boiling soup on the head of a Savoyard soldier. 

So much for the little Geneva history lesson I'm going back to the chocolate before the kids eat it all.

Happy Thanksgiving

Usually around this time of the day, Bonbon & I would be basting our turkey, baking apple pies, washing salads, screaming at the kids and not agreeing on turkey cooking time & oven temperature...well none of all that this year and I'm missing it this afternoon on Thanksgiving. I know that we have to create new traditions here in Singapore, but today all I long for is the familiar.

Happy Turkey to all of you. Gobble, gobble
